A Fire Safety Curtain provides a barrier between the stage and the auditorium in the event of a fire. The barrier prevents the heat, smoke, and flame from a fire on stage from affecting the audience while the auditorium is evacuated.

On new installations, Major Theatre can assist you with choosing the type of curtain, release system and rigging required for your specific needs. Older fire curtains installed prior to 1960, in most cases contain a certain percentage of Asbestos. Our licensed abatement contractors can remove your old fire curtain and we can install a replacement curtain, usually within a few days.

 Types of fire curtains:

Brail - commonly used when there is a minimum of space above the proscenium opening.
Trip - used when the available space is more than one and a half times the proscenium height.
Straight Lift- used when the available space is more than twice the proscenium height.

Automatic release systems are available such as Sure-Guard, which allow fire alarm systems, rate of rise detectors, smoke detectors or other electrical signals to release the fire curtain.
